Waterdeep Boy's Club The Waterdeep Boys Club is a Role Playing Gamers Club located in the Southeast section of Colorado Springs, Colorado in the Security-Widefield area It all started when two employees at K-Mart were discussing a new Role Playing Game by the name of Dungeons and Dragons® during break. Another employee walked into the break room, and asked if he could join us. Shortly thereafter, another employee, the wife of one of our original members heard about the game we were putting together and asked if she could join us and bring her husband along? No problem! It was just what we needed, and just like that, we had a game! We decided to get together on Saturday night and try it out. The rest, as they say, is History! Weve been playing D&D® on every Saturday night of every week of every year ever since barring natural disasters, vacations, or a death in the family. We adopted the name Waterdeep Boy's club after our Acting President developed the idea that an itinerant Gang of orphans and misfits would provide the perfect method of introducing an on-going, low-level, ready-made Role Playing game based in the extant world of Waterdeep®. The Gang would merely be trying to make their way in the Fantasy World of Waterdeep, and it offered unlimited potential for Adventure! The idea was so successful that our Gaming Group decided to make our real-world club name one and the same with their fantasy characters Clubs Nickname. We were the Waterdeep Boys Club. Or at the very least, we wanted to think so! It seemed only natural! So thats how we decided on the club name. We have grown from those 5 individuals to a core group of at least 10 Regulars, and have even seen a few nights when there were 15 players all gathered around the kitchen table. We have members of all ages, religions, and both sexes. Our youngest member just turned 12, and we have several grandfathers who are pushing retirement - if not already retired! We even had a Nazarene minister in our group at one time, and one of our current members' father is studying to be a Jewish rabbi. (we haven't been able to get him into the game yet - but we keep trying) We're an equal opportunity gaming group open to any race, creed, or color, as long as one of their overwhelming desires is to play a good game of D&D® - and we have a chair available at the table! Unfortunately, Only two of the original players are still active in the group, but all have been replaced by yet others who are just as fervent as our original core group were! If all our current members decided to come to the game all at once, we would currently number about 17. Since then, weve decided to split the group into two games. Just about everyone in our Gaming group has taken on the job of Dungeonmaster from time to time, so weve had quite a variety of games to play. Primarily, we play 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons®, but weve also played a good number of the other various flavors of AD&D® including various modules based in The Forgotten Realms® Game world, particularly Waterdeep® and the Undermountain®. But weve also played in the World of Greyhawk® Al Quadim®, Living City®, Living Death®, Living Jungle®, The Underdark, Spelljammer®, Ravensloft®, Dark Sun® as well as some Role Playing games that are not even AD&D, such as Shadowrun ®. Weve also tried out Car Wars®, and even played Star Trek® at one point or another. But why stop there? Weve even had one or two people create their own worlds and the games that go along with them Just ask just about anyone in our group about Bobby, The Mad Wizard of the Ten Parishes, or even Cabals Bijou if you dont believe me! Incidentally, there are plans to make the Cabals Bijou game as well as the Mad Wizard of the Ten Parishes available for downloading as soon as the hand-written games can be converted to Soft Copy. Keep an eye out for it on our Treasure page! But primarily, we play Dungeons and Dragons®. We are listed with the RPGA (Role Playing Gamers Association) underwritten by Wizards of the Coast®, and have been together in various forms since 1982. Of the 10 regulars in our Group, 8 of them are currently carded members of the RPGA, and at least 2 others have decided that they, too would become members at the earliest opportunity. Eventually, all those Saturday nights around the kitchen table started to pay off, and we started winning awards at the Local Gaming Conventions around Colorado Springs area and Denver. Our primary focus, as far as conventions goes, is The Genghis Con held annually on the Presidents Day weekend by the Denvers Gamers Association in Denver, in February. Look for us there next February! Wed be glad to meet you! We began attending conventions at Genghis Con V, which was held 16 Years ago in 1984, and we have yet to come home empty-handed, in fact, in most cases, weve taken home at least one First Place award in just about every Convention weve ever attended! In fact, just about every person in our group who actually attended a convention has taken home at least a Third place award! Its something we all feel proud about. But thats not all. Weve also had one of our members take home a Best All-Around Player award a couple of years back, and had two of our members listed as two of the Top 50 RPGA Players in the world. The RPGA published the list in that years Polyhedron® Magazine (the Bible of the RPGA, and distributed world-wide) and both were invited to attend that years Gen Con as contestants at the premier Convention of the Role Playing World! In 2000 we entered a Decathalon Event called 'The Monster Mash', in which RPGA members were asked to design a new monster, then enter it in an all out battle to see which monster came out on top. Our Entry, Named the Quicksilver slayer came in second, by virtue of a single die roll! Speaking of the RPGA, we have Two members who have attained the rank of Grandmaster Players in the RPGA ranking system. Believe it or not, they werent even the two that were listed in the Top 50 players list! But theyre working on it! The rest of us are mostly members of 2nd 4th level in either/or the classic and campaign categories. We even have a judge or two of relatively high level as well. But were getting there! As a RPGA club, we also help out at the Conventions, primarily as the suppliers and writers of the Award Certificates for all games at the Convention, not to mention acting as Game Masters. We have even written a few Role Playing games for the Genghis Cons. We started writing the games in 1992, and have provided one for every year ever since. The games were originally written as alternatives to the RPGA game offerings, since at that time, non-RPGA® convention goers were not allowed to play in RPGA sanctioned games. We didnt think that was very cool, so we decided to provide an alternative in the form of a series of AD&D® Convention Games that anyone could play, regardless of whether they were members of the RPGA or not!! The Waterdeep Boys Club games were written up to RPGA standards nonetheless, and are even now being submitted to the RPGA for official sanctioning. Once Wizards of the Coast® bought out TSR® Inc., a couple of years back, RPGA membership began to be offered at the convention game itself. Therefore, anyone who played the game was eligible to enroll in the RPGA®. They were even given free membership so that they would be able to play. In other words, it was no longer necessary to offer alternative AD&D Games at the Conventions and the Tables that had been dedicated to our games began to decline in attendance. Our optional AD&D® games were no longer necessary. So far, three of The games that the Waterdeep Boys Club submitted to the RPGA have managed to attain that honor. The first Game we ever submitted to the RPGA was also the First Game they had read as submitted by the Waterdeep Boy's Club, and it was picked up almost immediately! There are several more games in the review and editing stage at the RPGA right now, but as of yet, they have not been formally accepted, and are therefore available right now for you to pick up on our Treasure page. Get them while you can, because if the games end up getting selected for sanctioning by the RPGA, you will need to go through the RPGA to get them. Meanwhile, we hope you will enjoy them as much as our Convention-Goers and play testers did! Game number 10 is being written at this very moment, and it too will be offered for downloading once it has been completed and play tested. If you like the games well enough to want to acquire the complete set, you can still get the sanctioned games by joining the RPGA yourself, forming a club, and requesting the games directly from the RPGA. But games are not the only items we have to offer to you for download and purchase. Be sure to check out our Treasure page, since there are dozens of items available that have been developed and tested by our group throughout the years that we use constantly, and might prove useful to you as well. If you do find something you can use though, please honor the Shareware concept and render the noted stipend. Ultimately however, its really up to you. This web site wasnt really designed to make money. We merely want to share the wealth of processes and items we have developed and/or discovered over the years that have helped to nourish our obsession with that ultimate Role Playing game; Dungeons and Dragons®! That said, we shamelessly confess nonetheless, that every little bit helps. and Your contributions will help to keep this site a viable and useful source of future tools and products! After all, Domain Names do cost money, as do access fees and a Web presence in general. and Any subsequent offerings will be greatly appreciated! Enjoy our site, and thanks for visiting! P.S. Another tidbit of news, there is a short story being written by another member of our club that deals with the fates of a number of our fantasy alter egos that may become available at a later date for criticism. Keep your eyes open, well mention it in our Whats New page as details become available. Hallaster lives! The Fantasy Top of Page Treasure
